Superintendent’s Memo

Hello everyone.  Joe and a few other members have asked me about the dark green areas on the course, especially on the 9th fairway. These areas are not the result of too much fertilizer or a chemical spill. These areas have a condition called Fairy Ring.

Fairy Rings are a natural occurrence in turf grass. They are caused by a fungus in the soil and show up as dark green rings or lines. Mushrooms often appear after a rain. They are not harmful to the turf at all. I am going to try to lessen their appearance by removing some of the thatch layer in those areas. I am always willing to answer any questions that you may have.

Thank you,

Will Warner
